In my continued quest to check if this forum actually works, I wanted to post something in the books section.
Problem is I havent read a book in about four months. I have however gone RIGHT off podcast lately, they all went a bit preachy, so have been on an audiobook kick for my commute to and from work every day.
So a quick runthrough of the last few, all biographical
Chuck Norris : Against All Odds
Weird one this. It was interesting to listen to, though would've helped to have been read by the man himself, but if you do listen to this you'll come away with the realisation that ol' Chuck is a horribly hypocritical c*nt. Very big on his christian morals and all that rubbish, but of course you have to remember that when the devil made him have an affair behind his new wifes back he got the upper hand by taking the sin of the devil and from it getting a daughter who is a blessing from god! In your FACE satan! Not really a nice guy at all.
Steve Martin : Born standing up
Read by the author (always a plus) and covering the period from when he first tried stand-up comedy in tiny clubs to when he was playing massive stadiums with pretty much the same act. Doesnt cover the films as these really came after he stopped stand-up but does go into Saturday Night live a bit. A good listen, as much about the insecurities of being a teenager as anything else.
Steve Jobs : A Biography
REALLY interesting. I had an idea of what kind of guy he was before reading this but was still surprised at this book. Didn't realise he was as much, if not more, about the design and esthetic of his stuff as the technical side of it all. Also didn't know what a fucking nut job he was especially as a younger guy. Weird to think he was a multi-millionaire owner of Apple and still walking round without shoes and dropping acid.
Tony Blair : A Journey
NOT because I think he's amazing and its a hero worship thing. NOT because I think he's evil and want to justify that. Just because it's dealing with a period and events I know and is coming from a unique perspective. Thought it would be interesting and knew I'd be listening to it with one part of my brain constantly ticking boxes against Yes Prime Minister and The Thick of It. Am about 1/4 through and so far it's definitely doing that. Just finished the section dealing with the behind the scenes chaos dealing with the death of princess diana.
