Although I've been reading 2000AD for the last two/ three years, I've not had a chance to actually read any of the old, original, classic 2000AD.... I'll be honest, the sheer volume of available back story was slightly terrifying so I didn't make a big effort for ages, also, I have a husband (Rich), best mate (Whittle), & Oirish reprobate (Flint) who between them, could quote chapter and verse on any Toothy facts that I needed to make sense of whatever story I was reading in the Prog or Meg. Then I read Thrill Power Overload & reading about the creation and origins of all the amazing 2000AD characters out there got me so fascinated, I set to work & started raiding husband's huge collection.....and accepted the fact that I'd probably never have the time to pick up & read another non-2000AD comic again.....so.much.stuff.to.read!!! So, in the last couple of weeks, I've burned through the first Nemesis phonebook, D.R. & Quinch, and the first ABC warriors trade. Next up is Nikolai Dante: The Romanov Dynasty. I've promised to write a couple of mini-reviews for the ECBT site, mainly to assist any noobs who aren't quite sure what to pick up first!! Suffice to say, they've all been SUPERB so far, and I know the other half is pretty jealous that I'm getting to read all of these for the first time!! I am having an absolute blast & i'm interested to find out which of the old classics are people's favourites??

I loved 'Meltdown Man'. And 'Mean Arena' was a great concept.

Armoured Gideon was wonderfully weird and ran from progs 671-935. Zenith was just brilliant, especially the story where the world goes to pot at the end. Progs 535-806 and a special story in prog 2001. One of my most favouritest favourites was Ace Trucking Co (Progs 232-498). The first stories came out when CB radio was big, so it was all in slang. A collect-and-keep dictionary was included in the progs so you could make sense of what everyone was saying to each other. And there were a couple of songs in there. Speaking of musicals, the musical story of Robo Hunter can still raise a smile and can be found from progs 292-307! Many an evening was spent singing along to these songs and laughing into my soup!

I still love The Ballad of Halo Jones. It's a shame that the beardy-weirdy burns just about every bridge he ever crosses so we didn't ever get another volume.

Mine are Nemesis and DR&Quinch... which may be why I nagged Iz to read them. Day the Law Died is still my fave classic Dredd arc. Has the perfect balance of action, adventure and silliness. Its that point where you realise people actually fear Judge Fish and can almost understand why

Anything and everything by John Smith. At the moment Leatherjack, Cradlegrave, Devlin Waugh and Indigo Prime (with new stuff coming) are all readily available. Draginkind is long overdue a reprint as is his Tyranny Rex stuff.
The blokes a genius and don't listen to anyone who says otherwise!

I'm a massive Dante fan, love the way there is a massive pay off relatively early in the series. Loved Glimmer rats and bad company as well.

Rogue Trooper (anything before Re-Gene is generally superb and pretty crazy) Bad Company (series 1 deffo, series 2 at a push) Rogue Trooper : The War Machine (Apply the Highlander principle and avoid like Sc*jo anything that appears after this story) Leviathan is amazing. Mazeworld Time Flies is a good bit of fun.

Cool, Halo Jones, early Rogue Trooper, Buttonman and Leviathan are all on my 'read it ASAP' list...oh and Caballistics. Should probably read Mega-City Undercover before Thought Bubs too actually

I must admit to never having read some classic Dredd's (Cry of the Werewolf, OZ ( ), and most of the Prelude's to Necropolis) but have (for some reason) slogged through such oddities as Invasion!, Death Planet, and Angel. I have also yet to read Armoured Gideon, holding out for a collected edition, though I hear Bill Savage was killed in it (The Disaster 1990 incarnation I assume).

Some of the early Dredd stories are just outstanding. City of the Damned is great.
